Following are the details of the projects undertaken by the Club in the
last few months:
1. BLOOD DONATION CAMP
221 students and faculty/staff members of the college donated blood.
2. LITERACY PROGRAMME
From the slums of Mahipalpur and Rangpuri Pahari ,34 children in the age
group of 6 to 14 years were got admitted to the MCD Primary Schools in and
around Mahipalpur and Masoodpur.
This was done under the framework of the Right of Children to Free and
Compulsory Education Act,2009.
As per this Act,the right to education will be accorded the same legal
status as the right to life as provided by Article 21A of the Indian
Constitution. Every child in the age group of 6-14 years will be provided 8
years of elementary education in an age appropriate classroom in the
vicinity of his/her neighborhood.
List of these 34 children duly authenticated by the School Principal is
available.
It is also being ensured that there are no school drop outs with respect to these 34 children. For this there is a direct link with the rincipal/Classteachers through whom feedback on the childrens’ progress is received regularly.
3. WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT
The women of EWS category from the slums of Mahipalpur and Rangpuri
Pahari were given an opportunity to learn sewing and tailoring.16 women are
at present learning sewing and tailoring in our campus.
It is expected that after learning sewing and tailoring, these women would
become self sufficient and would be able to supplement the family income by
stitching clothes in their respective neighborhoods.
4. ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
Cleanliness and Plantation project called”Clean Delhi Green Delhi” pertaining to cleanliness of the areas and planting of saplings was started
on 12th.August,11.
The members took the initiative to clean areas around the campus. Saplings
were planted in and around our campus as well as in the two schools of
Mahipalpur and Masoodpur where children were got admitted 2 months back.
5. CARING FOR THE AGED
The way a culture or society treats its aged can tell a lot about its value systems. India has traditionally treated its elderly with great respect and regard. But the Indian Society is changing fast; its value systems and family structure have seen a sea change. Nuclear family is increasingly the norm – they’re into single parents now and sadly, aged parents are being left to fend for themselves.
More than anything else, they need loving care. But who has the time? It’s a mad scramble out there. Blame it on rising aspirations, westernization, urbanization, migration, working women and a host of other factors.
Senior citizens homes or old age homes/communities are no longer alien concepts in India. They’re coming up all over the place, and unlike popular belief, they’re not cheerless establishments where old people wither away to oblivion.
The “Home for the Aged” that the Rotaract Club members had shortlisted for a visit/spending quality time has 16 elderly people who live ‘independent’ lives of dignity.
This Old Age Home is situated at Fathehpur Beri, about 8 km. from the Chattarpur Temple.
A team of 20 Rotaract Club members including the Faculty Advisor,Prof.B.Manchanda spent the whole afternoon and evening on Sunday, 4th,September,11 with these aged people. The aged were regaled with comic plays, music ,dance and songs followed by a sumptuous lunch.
The parting was emotional and some of the young students and the elderly people got very sentimental. We left with a promise that we would pay them a visit again sometime near Diwali or Christmas.
