Union Budget Discussion (2019-20)

The Union Budget Discussion was organized by the Department Of Management on 7th Feb 2019 at JIMS, Auditorium under the aegis of JIMS VICHAR MANCH, which was formed to organize similar events in the future. The audience comprised of the students from all the three Departments i.e. Management, IT and Journalism and Mass Communication. The faculty members from the all departments were also present during the event. The Expert speaker for the Union Budget Discussion, was CA Gaurav Mittal, Director, Grant Thornton, India. The discussion began with an introduction and setting the tone by the HOD BA(JMC), Dr. Neeru Johri, she very aptly brought out the historical dimensions as to how the Budget making exercise started in India, pre and post independence, the first budget was made just for 7 and a half months, etc, she also highlighted the social and economic aspect as implicated by the financial statement of the Nation, i.e. the Union Budget. Dr. Ravi K Dhar, Director, JIMS gave an overview of the Budget and how important it is for each citizen to understand its impact on all the sectors. He also drew in the aspects of International Relations, the role of UN, SDGs in the public policy. Dr.Dhar urged the youth to be able to make a critical analysis of the Budget and how and Why does a government take a particular financial decision in the greater scheme of things. The Student teams (Three teams, each team comprising of 2 students) from the Departments made presentations on themes which were pre allotted to them. The students from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication covered the area of Higher Education, Health, Women Empowerment, The students from the Department of Management made their presentation on Economy and Finance and the students from IT Department made their presentation on Tax and IT Industry.
