11th National Seminar on ‘Radio as Mass Media in Post Liberalized India’

Department of Communication, JIMS, Vasant Kunj, organized the 11th National Seminar on ‘Radio as Mass Media in Post Liberalized India’ on October 26, 2016 at, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). The objective of the seminar was to sensitize students to the prevailing trends in Radio as Mass Media in Post Liberalized India. Dr. Ravi K. Dhar, Director JIMS Vasant Kunj welcomed the guests on the behalf of the Hon'ble Chairman, Dr. Amit Gupta and warmly greeted the audience. Mr. Rajiv Kumar Shukla, Deputy Director General, AIR, spoke on the topic, "Contribution of AIR as Public Broadcaster and its challenges." He shared the ‘thought provoking subject’ by recalling his college life during the time of emergency. Dr. R Sreedher, media professional & Community Radio expert, presented his views on the topic, “Redefining the purpose and regulation of community radio”. He is one of the pioneers of the community radio movement in India for empowering the marginalized. Ms. Shrinkhala Sahai, Content Manager & RJ, Radio Gandharv (the first 24-hour Hindustani classical music radio station in India, WorldSpace Satellite Radio), spoke on the topic, “Co-creation of content to reshape the democratic communication.” Ms. Akriti Jakhmola, RJ, Radio Nasha, spoke about the “Challenges of content and sustainability of private FM Radio Stations.” She stimulated the young audience with her witty interactions. She spoke about the radio as power, its surprise element, radio jockey as a career and content writing application. Mr. Rahul Makin, RJ, Radio Fever 104 FM spoke about the “FM Radio and Public Broadcasting challenges.”
